Dreams of a Dark Warrior Written by: Kresley Cole

Murdered before he could wed Regin the Radiant, warlord Aiden the Fierce seeks his beloved through eternity, reborn again and again into new identities, yet with no memory of his past lives.

When Regin encounters Declan Chase, a brutal Celtic solider, she recognizes her proud warlord reincarnated.  But Declan takes her captive, intending retribution against all immortals--unaware that he belongs to their world.

Yet every reincarnation comes with a price, for Aidan is doomed to die when he remembers his past.  To save herself from Declan's torments, will Regin rekindle memories of the passion they once shared--even if it means once again losing the only man she could ever love?

My Review

Our book begins with Regin being escorted to Aidian the Fierce at the tender age of twelve.  She is searching for her sister and has come to her fathers mortal warriors for help.  She is mistaken for a boy because of her choice of dress and her small height.  However, the moment she speaks her guise is blown.  Her voice enchants Aidian to take a second look and he realises she is more than she appears to be even before the cloak is removed to display her pointed ears and golden locks.  She is a Valkyrie, daughter of the god Woden.  Aidian immediately shields her from his men and escorts her to his chambers. He orders dinner to be brought to them and asks Regin to regall him with tales of heaven.  She is more than happy to oblige even if she believes this man is mad...even for mortal standards.  Aidian makes two pallets on the floor and informs her that she is his mate.  Regin laughs at this inside, but plays along, waiting for her mad mortal to fall asleep.  He warns her that when she reaches her change that she'll want him around and again she silently scoffs at the absurdity of needing anything from him.  They exchange vows of celibacy before Aidian falls asleep and Regin slips out of his life for the next nine years.  But true to his warning she comes back to him, needing far more adult type things from this excruciatingly hot warrior who has haunted her thoughts.  He rejoices at finding her and has remained true to his celibacy vow.  He spends the next six months teaching her to fight and the joys of foreplay without intercourse.  He is trying to win her love and though she begs him to take her he refuses until the night of his capture.  He was a week late coming back and Regin was on the edge.  He finally comes to her in berserker mode and takes her, even as she warns him of the consequences of his actions.  He is killed hours later.  Throughout the book he is reincarnated  and the are reunited only to be separated hours later after his death.  Its hard to tell who has the worse end of the deal.  There are many other sub plots going on during this story but you are always sucked back into their story.  It has a few hot sex scenes and some comedy breaks but the pain the two characters are in is always present.  It is in fact what pushes you to keep reading because surely they get a break somewhere?  It is a very good read.
