Alex's Angel By Natasha Blackthorne

He needs her to believe in him a lot more than she needs his protection...

In the wake of a devastating epidemic, sheltered Emily Eliot finds herself alone, making her own decisions for the first time. When desperation leads her to sell her virtue, she walks straight into trouble.

Enter one gorgeous, golden haired gentleman bent on protecting her.

Alexander Dalton came to the Blue Duck Tavern seeking to lose himself in sexual pleasure. But when he saw the delicate and vulnerable young woman, he couldn’t turn away.

Emily is alarmed by her own intense responses as this charismatic and carnal man introduces her to erotic pleasure. Having lived as a virtual prisoner of her grandmother’s suffocating manipulation, Emily bridles under Alex’s possessive, protectiveness. And Alex’s charming smile hides a dark secret that could destroy their chance at happiness.

My Review:

Alex has a scarring past.  Kidnapped and held for ransom for many years, Alex manages to return to the society that once held him in a different kind of chains.  Although in all appearances Alex manages a good front, he feels inside that he is broken.  This feeling deepens as the years pass and the failed relationships pile up.  He truly feels, even though his success in business has made him a ton of money, that he is broken.  When he first spies Emily in the bar he has a gut feeling that she will be trouble.  She isn't even the kind of girl that usual catches his interest.  But maybe, just maybe, this kind of trouble can heal.

Emily has one goal.  Just one.  Her life's work.  Her purpose and her passion.  But how far is she willing to go to see the book printed?  Answer:  All the way.  Emily has led a very sheltered life.  Raised by her grandmother, he encounters with the opposite sex were extremely limited if not non-existent.  But her grandmother was gone and Emily had fallen on desperate times.  Her life's work, her reason for existence lie in the unprinted pages of this manuscript.  So she comes up with a plan in order to obtain some money.  She will sell the only thing left that is truly hers, her virtue.  By the time she walks into the bar she has changed her mind at least a half a dozen times.  Until her eyes land on him....and all rational thoughts flee...

It's no secret that I truly enjoy Natasha's works.  She has the unique talent of coming up with new and inventive stories.  Alex's Angel was no exception.  Emily has been under the tightest control her whole life while Alex surrounds himself in any sort of decadence in order to forget.  Neither has allowed themselves to actually live and love.  In the end, their political wants coincide and both have common goals. But will their mutual passion and work be enough to save their tremulous relationship?  Can Alex learn to  believe in himself and face the pain that haunted him instead of burying it?  This is another great addition to add to Natasha's Carte Blanche Series!!! I am EAGERLY anticipating A Measured Risk. Hats off to Natasha for continuously entertaining us with her amazingly unusual stories!!
